BORLAND ANNOUNCES NEW INTERNATIONAL
TRANSLATION TOOLS FOR DELPHI
"These translation tools use the same technology that Borland uses to localize our own products for international markets," said Zack Urlocker, Borland's director of Delphi Product Management. "By taking advantage of these tools, Delphi developers can easily offer their applications in many different languages -- without having to start from scratch each time. It truly opens up a global marketplace for their software."
Delphi 2.0 is Borland's 32-bit, Windows 95 and Windows NT family of high-performance, visual component-based, rapid application development (RAD) tools. Introduced in March, Delphi 2.0 is the industry's fastest-growing RAD environment -- winning awards and customer praise due to its suite of powerful client and server development tools that enable large corporations and government organizations to build robust, scalable applications in shorter amounts of time.
Developers using the Delphi Translation Suite will receive many time, cost, quality and safety advantages from the product's table-based design. Any new application enhancements or bug-fixes also apply immediately to all translated versions. The developer's translation staff do not need to be technical to do the localization, and cannot access or modify the application's source code -- ensuring greater security. The Suite's GUI conversion features allow the translator to preview how the translation will appear, avoiding message truncation problems and pick letter duplicates. Most importantly, all of the work that the Delphi Translation Suite does is designed to be re-usable: As new versions of applications are created, only the new or changed items need to be translated
-- greatly reducing localization time and costs for the developer.

166-, 150-MHz Pentium Processors Deliver High Performance
for Mass Appeal
“System manufacturers will be offering customers an unprecedented level of performance and value,” said Carl Everett, senior vice president, Desktop Products Group at Intel. Everett noted the home market segment will benefit from the performance available in the Pentium processor family. A good example is the recently introduced
Intel Video Phone with ProShare® technology which allows callers to view each other on PCs using standard telephone lines.
Everett added that while 200-MHz Pentium processor-based systems represent a new performance milestone for the Pentium processor family, 166- and 150-MHz Pentium processor-based systems will be prominent in PC buyers’ minds for the outstanding prices and performance values they represent.
The 200-MHz Pentium processor, built on Intel’s advanced .35 micron process technology, is in limited production today, and will ramp in volume over the next two quarters. The processor is housed in a new, more thermally efficient Plastic Pin Grid Array (PPGA) package. This, combined with the advanced process technology, enables the processor to reach its high clock rates.
High-speed Pentium processors will continue to be the choice for users of Windows* 95, especially in the home market segment where multimedia and highly graphic software demand and benefit from higher performance. Business users, in the meantime, are moving to the 32-bit software environments offered by Windows NT and UNIX, and selecting Pentium® Pro processors for their computing needs.
The 200-MHz Pentium processor delivers 5.47 SPECint95 and SPECint_base95, and 3.68 SPECfp95 and 2.92SPECfp_base95. The iCOMP Index 2.0 rating is 142.
In 1,000-unit quantities, the 200-MHz-Pentium processor is priced at $599.
HILLSBORO, Ore., June 10, 1996 -- Intel Corporation today announced the availability of LANDesk® Virus Protect v1.6 for Windows NT Servers. The new product provides real-time scanning services to increase the virus security and stability of Intel architecture-based servers, while extending Intel’s proven virus-protection technology to the Windows NT environment.
LANDesk Virus Protect v1.6 continues Intel’s work to increase the effectiveness and reduce the support costs of networked PCs, extending the power of Intel architecture systems across the LAN.
“As a vital pressure point in networks, servers represent both a requirement and an opportunity to gain control through better management,” said Ed Ekstrom, general manager of Intel’s Network Products Division. “This version of LANDesk Virus Protect extends Intel’s virus protection to Windows NT servers, delivering further on Intel’s commitment to be the leading provider of management solutions for the Intel architecture.”
LANDesk Virus Protect v1.6 for Windows NT uses server-based technology to provide centralized virus protection of vital data as it passes through the server, preventing viruses from being passed on to client workstations. Real-time scanning continuously safeguards against polymorphic, stealth, Macro and other viruses as files are sent to the server. The product, which can detect viruses in compressed files, also allows on-demand or scheduled scans.
An extension of Intel’s industry-proven virus protection for Novell NetWare*, LANDesk Virus Protect v1.6 provides a streamlined feature set that allows customers to quickly and easily add Intel virus protection for Windows NT servers. As customers add Windows NT application servers to their environments, they can deploy LANDesk Virus Protect v1.6 to protect those servers using the same scanning capabilities present in Intel’s virus protection product for NetWare. LAN administrators also can, in one step, automatically download free virus pattern updates from Intel’s BBS to provide protection from the newest virus threats. To simplify customer administration, LANDesk Virus Protect for Windows NT servers will use the same virus pattern updates as for NetWare.
LANDesk Virus Protect v1.6 for Windows NT Servers, available June 18, is priced at $995 (U.S. suggested list) for a single-server license, $2,985 for a four-server license, and $9,950 for a 20-server license. A 45-day free preview of LANDesk Virus Protect v1.6 will continue to be available from Intel’s site on the World Wide Web. This and other Intel network products are available worldwide through a network of distributors and value-added resellers. Additional product information is available at (800) 538-3373 for U.S. and Canadian customers; at 44(1)-793-431-155 for European customers; or at (503) 264-7354 for other international customers.
Intel, the world’s largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of personal computer, networking and communications products.
