Dove, come trovare e scegliere, installare software per un Server Internet Windows NT 4.0

Dopo i precedenti articoli, che davano delle indicazioni utili al settaggio del Server NT, ma che possono essere usati con un qualsiasi sistema server, vediamo più in particolare quelli che sono i prodotti per Windows NT 4.0 Server che ci saranno utili all' installazione di un Server Internet. Chiaramente completo di tutti i servizi, utili e non, che servono a pubblicare un server che si rispetti. Con i relativi Server WWW, DNS, Mail (SMTP, POP3), Ghopher, FTP, Proxy, Index, etc. Chi più ne ha più ne metta.


Dove! La Microsoft ha allestito delle pagine di link dove troverete sia la descrizione dei prodotti che i relativi links. l'indirizzo è http://www.microsoft.com/ntserver/tools/server.htm dove, suddivisi per argomento, troverete i links per le pagine in oggetto. E' tutto talmente chiaro che c'è poco da spiegare. Andateci e provate.

WinBind for Win32

WinBind for Win32 is a GUI based DNS Name Server which has been written to supplement the Microsoft NT-platform port of BIND, and is notable for its Win 95 support. This British FTP site can be a tough chew - hard to access in their peak hours. Version 1.00, February 1996. File size 333 k. Released by Maxwell N. Andrews. Freeware.

Microsoft Proxy Server ("Catapult") acts as a secure gateway between a LAN and the Internet. It supports all Internet protocols including WWW (HTTP), FTP, RealAudio, VDOLive, IRC, mail and news. WinDis

WinDis. This is a very comprehensive mail and news program with the following capabilities although it is not itself intended as a mail/news reader:
NNTP News Client - downloads news for reading with an offline reader.
SMTP Mail Client - uploads mail, or news articles via a "mail to news" server.
SMTP Mail Server - downloads waiting mail for an off-line email program.
POP3 Mail Server - allows programs using POP3 to read received mail
Finger Client - fingers servers as appropriate.
Finger Server - allows others to finger you while online.
Time Client - gets server time.
Online time logging, auto log out feature, built in Pegasus mail feature. Current version 3.1, released December 1995. File size 498 k (32 bit). Freeware. The prime site for this, Demon, is a major British site which can be difficult to access. A large documentation file is available here. This program was developed by Ewan Kirk with help from others including Colin Spensley who ported the 32 bit version.
