How to set-up a personal Mosaic Home Page
In order to set up a personal Mosaic Home Page you must (in this order)
- have an account on the botes2.tesre.bo.cnr.it machine, a MIPS
DECStation running ULTRIX 4.3.
Please, contact Massimo
Trifoglio at extension 8706 if you do not have one;
- create in your home directory a directory called HTML;
- put in HTML the file index.html (see below);
- notify Mauro Orlandini
(ext 8667) or Massimo
Trifoglio (ext 8706) you have a Mosaic page.
That's it! If you have the file HTML/index.html,
then you will access your home page with the following URL:
- http://www.tesre.bo.cnr.it/~youraccountname/
where youraccountname is the name you use when you log-in (The ~ is
necessary!).
I suggest you give a look at this
tutorial
on how to write an HTML page,
and to give a look at the Taylor's Rules
for Cool Web Pages before going on.
If you are lazy (and I know you are!!!)
you can copy this template source
file, and edit it.
For you folks who want to know a bit more about the HTML language, I put a
HTML quick reference. You can print it by giving the
command
lpr -h -Pps_laser /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/Manuals/quick-ref.ps
to print in the third floor printer, or
lpr -h -Pps_fast /usr/local/etc/httpd/htdocs/Manuals/quick-ref.ps
to print in the second floor printer.
Important!
While reading every HTML page, you can view the code that generated it by
selecting the View Source button.
You can copy every HTML page by selecting the Save As... button, and
choosing the desired format for saved document. The default is Plain
Text but, by clicking on it, you can choose one of the Formatted Text,
Postscript and HTML formats.
