Paul Gauguin and the Russian Avantgarde
Old Announcement

This is the announcement of an exhibition that was held in Ferrara, Palazzo dei Diamanti (Diamond Palace) from April 1 to July 2, 1995. It has been opened on March 31, 1995 by the Italian President Luigi Scalfaro, and opened to the public the day after.

The exhibition is edited by Marina Bessonova (Puskin Museum of Fine Arts) and Albert Kostenevich (State Ermitage). The goal of the show is twofold: the knowledge of the most important nucleus of Gauguin works, and the study of the strong influence of the Gauguin's primitivism on the work by Larionov, Goncharova, Petrov-Vodkin, Kandinskij and others (their works will be shown at the exhibition).
This is the very first time a so huge collection of Gauguin works leave Russia. The difficulty resides in the fragility of the maestro works, who painted on sacking canvas, the only available in Tahiti.

The Exhibition

• Schedule: The show will be open every day from 9 to 19 (sundays included!).
• Catalog: It is available by Artificio Press.
  It costs 73,000 lit (55,000 at the Show); 320 pages (200 in color).

• Guided Tours: It will be possible to see the show with a guided tour. This service is offered by the Association of the Touristic Guides of Ferrara and Cooperativa di Cultura e Turismo Itinerando.
• Tickets: The show entrance costs 10,000 lit. The discount ticket is 8,000 lit. For groups greater than 20 people, one ticket is free every 20 people. For student groups the ticket costs 7,000 lit.
  It is also possible to buy a cumulative ticket (15,000 lit, 10,000 discounted) valid to visit the Boldini Museum and the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum.
• Discounts: For groups there are special discounts showing train or hotel tickets.
• Two floor bus: For all the duration of the show, a two floor bus (named Gauguin Bus) will go through Ferrara, showing the most important monuments of the Mediaeval town. It will run on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. It cost 2,500 lit.
• Bike-Card: From March 21 to September 20 it will be possible to rent bikes to visit the town. The rent includes discounts in hotel, museums and parking lots. It costs 16,000 lit (yellow bici-card) if you rent the bike, or 4,000 lit (red bici-card) if you don't. You can buy them at the information offices, the railway station and all the hotels and shops that display this logo.

How to reach the Exhibition

• From the Railway Station:
  Take bus n.3 passing every 20 minutes.
  On foot in about 20 minutes. You can walk through Viale Costituzione, Corso Porta Po (straigh but no sighting), or Viale Costituzione, Viale Cavour (walk to the Caste) and Corso Ercole D'este.

• By Car:
  HighWay A13, exit Ferrara Sud. Go straigh to the (toll) parking lot in Piazzale Kennedy.
  HighWay A13, exit Ferrara Nord. There is a new parking lot in Corso Porta Po, at about 200 m from the Exhibition. It will open on May 2.
