Paul Gauguin and the Russian Avantgarde
Old Announcement
This is the announcement of an exhibition that was held in Ferrara, Palazzo dei Diamanti (Diamond Palace) from April 1 to July 2, 1995. It has been opened on March 31, 1995 by the Italian President Luigi Scalfaro, and opened to the public the day after.
The exhibition is edited by Marina Bessonova
(Puskin Museum
of Fine Arts) and
Albert Kostenevich (State Ermitage).
The goal of the show is twofold: the
knowledge of the most important nucleus of Gauguin works, and the study of the
strong influence of the Gauguin's primitivism on the work by Larionov,
Goncharova, Petrov-Vodkin, Kandinskij and others (their works will be shown
at the exhibition).
This is the very first time a so huge collection of Gauguin works leave
Russia. The difficulty resides in the fragility of the maestro works, who
painted on sacking canvas, the only available in Tahiti.
